Swim Safety

I believe everyone in the world has a right to learn how to swim. It is quite expensive to pay for swimming lessons so some people haven't learnt how to swim yet. At our school every year we do swim safety which isn't the same as normal swimming lessons, swim safety is where you learn how to be safe in the water. The reason it is important to learn how to be safe in the water because New Zealand is surrounded by ocean.

My Learning About A Riti

In class for reading we have been learning about a Riti which is a fishing device, here is my learning. According to Māori creation traditions the god of the sea and progenitor of fish is Tangaroa, the son of Ranginui (the sky father) and Papatūānuku (the earth mother). Fishermen tied hooks onto strong flax lines to catch fish, and sometimes they caught flounder using spears. They trapped crayfish in woven pots. Who wants to play Ghostbusters?

Playing with my friend Leon

In the weekend me and my friend Leon had a massive play for over five hours. I was playing with friends for over six hours but I was only playing football at the reserve for 1 hour. The reason why I left was because no one was passing the ball to me or Leon so we left. Once me and Leon got back to my house we went and played on the trampoline and practised our flips. Next we asked my mum for some lunch because we were hungry. After that we went over to his house and played with the bey blades. Next we went on the tramp and me and Leon had a competition of who could do the backdrops in a row, I won with 164 and Leon got 142. After that we had a competition who could do the most seat drops in a row, Leon won with 1111 and I got 699. Afterwords we watched this amazing stop motion video that Leon's brother Lucas made. It only went for 34 seconds but it toke him over an hour to make. Finally we all went on the tramp and had a game of corners then went home.   

Flip, slide and turn

Today we have been learning about flipping shapes, sliding shapes, and turning shapes. For some shapes like a square it is really easy because it would just stay the same all the time. Other objects like shoes makes it harder because when they turn they look different.

My tessellation

This is my tessellation the I have been working on for ages. A tessellation is a group of one shape the fit together perfectly. A tessellation also has to have no gaps in between each other. Usually a tessellation is a piece of art that looks hypnotic.

           

My dog

Today I am going to post a picture of my dog Harry. He is a black Labradoddle and he's really fluffy. He really loves playing in the morning but in the afternoon he is usually is just sleeping. He is really fun to play but sometimes he gets a bight bitty. He is only 8 weeks old but he is learning quickly.

 

Room 11 have been learning about geometry in maths. The one particular thing we have been learning about this week is week is lines of symmetry.

This recount is about when I went up to tekapo for a holiday. The learning objective is so we can get better at writing recounts. 

On Friday I went up to Tekapo with my Mum, Dad, and My sister Libby. We went up to Tekapo for Easter.

Once we got there we unpacked the car and then had a look around. Next we went for a walk down the street to where we were meant to meet for stargazing. After that we came home and got dressed for dinner, dinner was at a place called Peppers and it was so good. I had a salmon with a real good sauce. Next we came back home, put on some warm clothes and then went to the meeting place for the stargazing. Finally we got in a bus and drove up to the mountain where we looked at the stars.

We were finally up at the top of Mt John and they explained to us all about Orion, a star constellation. Next they told us about how to navigate your way through night using the star called Sirius. Finally we got to look at the moon through the best telescope there. Then we went home, brushed our teeth and then went straight to bed.

Scientific lab report

Have you ever wondered What would happen to oil, water and food colouring if the Alka-seltzer tablet hit it? First we watched a video about what would happen when we did the experiment. Mr Morell got eight cups and filled four of them up with oil and he other four up with water. Miss gloag layed down paper towels on the mat and then placed the cups of oil on them. Next Mr morell poured the water in the cup with the oil.Then the teachers dropped 5 drops of food colouring in each cup. We waited for a bight and then we dropped the Alka-seltzer tablets in and it made a cool concealed explosion. Finally the teachers asked four students to tip the liquid out into the sink.  Once the water hit the vegetable oil the water went straight to the bottom. Next when the food colouring hit the vegetable oil it slowly made its way to the water. Then when the alka-seltzer tablet tablet went in it made cool concealed explosions that looked like waves. As soon as the alka-seltzer tablet hit the surface of the water it started making red ear bubbles come up out of the water into the oil. The bubbles started getting bigger until eventually it looked like a volcano explosion inside of a cup. After that the explosions started getting smaller but as I figured out at home they started again if you put more water in the cup.The first one, which was the one miss gloag was doing, the food colouring was blue and it took awhile for it to reach the water. The blue one also didn’t have an as big explosion, probably because the alka-seltzer tablet took longer to get to the bottom. The second one was the green one and one obvious thing about that one is that it had more drops of food colouring in than the others. The green one's alka-seltzer tablet went to the ground quicker than the others which meant the explosion was bigger. Next it was the black one which had way more oil in the the others which the there was more oom for the explosion so the explosion was bigger. Also the black one obviously had less water which made the explosion not go for as long. The final one was the red one but I didn’t get to see so I don’t know what it did. Our result was really cool, it was pretty much a homemade lava lamp except it was at school. What happened was the water had food colouring in so we the alka-seltzer tablet entered the water a made a wave like explosion, the funny thing is that it was concealed. The explosion started off small but it started getting more wave like. Once it got big I felt like the water was going to come right out of the cup. Eventually the explosion died down and four people went and tipped out the contents. One thing that I learnt was that water and oil do not like each other and they separate almost instantly. When the water hit the oil it started making ear bubbles and that was because the water and oil didn’t like each other. Something else that I learnt was that food colouring was pretty much 100% water. When the food colouring hit the oil it slowly started making its way to the water because it’s made of water so it doesn’t like oil. As soon as the alka-seltzer tablet hit the oil it slowly made its way down the bottom to the water. As soon as the alka-seltzer tablet hit the water it started to disintegrate.

At school, this week we have been learning about nets and 3D shapes. Yesterday we made some nets on a piece of dotted paper. My net is the one you see at the top it is a rectangle prism. a rectangle prism will be quite easy to make. I will put a photo of my finished net on my blog once I finish it. If you did a net what shape was it?     

All about me

Hi guys my name is Nate and I am 9 years old, and I love playing football in the weekend. This is my first post for 2019 and also my first post ever so please give me some support :). My best subject at school is maths and I am quite good at it. I recently have gone to the Canterbury swimming sports. I swim one hour a week at Aqua gym. I have recently made some pretty cool achievements so please follow me and make sure to check out my next post about my really cool achievements.
